SYNOPSIS
Set in the 1980s, the film depicts the ruthless plotting and schemes revolving around business elites. Because the film is set during the tail end of British rule, the time period was wrought with corruption and exploitation. The story line of Once Upon a Time in Hong Kong is based on the real-life events of the Carrian Group, which was a major Hong Kong corporation that expanded rapidly in the 1980s, but also collapsed quickly due to major corruption and fraud.
