ABOUT

Li Ziqi ( 李子柒) is one of the most-celebrated internet celebrities on the world wide web. Having found a special niche in showcasing the beauty of good, clean country living, Li has firmly established herself as a superstar on various media platforms. She is a beautiful, intelligent and cunningly-creative Chinese food and country-life blogger. Having come from humble beginnings, she has worked very hard to overcome a poor background.  Li lives with her grandmother in the village of Pingwu, situated in the mountains and forests of northwestern Pingwu, Mianyang City of the Sichuan Province of China. After her parents divorced when she was a very small child, she went to live with her father and stepmother, till her dad died when she was a mere four years old. In typical Cinderella fashion, her stepmother became abusive towards her after her father's death, so she ran away and lived in the caves by herself.

After some time, Li was found and taken in by her paternal grandparents. Her grandfather was his village's expert chef, and one sought-after for holidays and special occassions, where he would exercise his masterful culinary skills to cook amazing dishes for the villagers. At age fourteen, she moved into the city to attend school, making a living by working as a DJ. In addition, Li took on other odd jobs such as making HanFu, and being a waiteress and dishwasher for a restaurant. It was through doing these menial jobs that she learned the skills she would later use to create her Youtube videos.

In 2012, her paternal grandfather passed away, and she moved back to take care of her paternal grandmother. She vowed to care for her elderly grandmother, but she found it difficult to make money to support herself, let alone her grandmother. In 2015, she began making videos after her little brother told her that he was making videos on sites like tick tock to make money. Zigi grabbed her iphone and started filming away. In her video she shared the things she learned from her hard work and life experiences.  As anyone who has made attempts to earn money on the internet knows, it first came with great difficulty and futility, as she had very little viewers. But Li persevered, ensuring that all her videos are top notch, with a very professional look and feel. She does everything herself (recording, cooking, editing, posting), until in recent years she began earning enough continous cashflow to hire two assistants.

In the eyes of her audience, there seems to be nothing this super woman can't do.  Regular visitors to her channel are reportedly put in a state of peace  watching her videos, as you see her cracking walnuts open with her bare hands , making facial mask and perfumes from scratch, gardening and raising tons of cute farm animals, building furnitures to cooking amazing traditional Sichuan dishes. Watching her make everything fresh from her garden and farm is a visual delight to behold.  As of 2019, she has over 7 million subscribers on YouTube, 19 million followers on Sina Weibo, and has inspired many bloggers to post similar content. She has a Taobao store where she sells some of the stuff she has made herself. On August 2019, she opened a store on TMall (Jack Ma's veresion of Amazon), having sold over 200,000 items in just four days. With tens of millions sales, and won the Top TMall trading performance. Now, she has more than enough money to take care of herself and her family, and she even donates a portion of her earnings to the needy.
