Renascence 凤唳九天 Episode 5

The scene starts with Yao Mowan's father talking to Ye Junqing. He said his daughter has never left their home nor spoke to any outsiders before, therefore she shouldn't have had any enemies. He asked who would try to harm her. Ye Junqing said perhaps it has something to do with her sister Yao Moxin. He continues to ask if Madam Dou's older brother, Dou Shi Ming had come back to the capital secretly. He said not that he know of unless, the king ordered his return secretly. He said his wife returned to the in-law's home, perhaps there was a link. He wonders out loud why he was kept in the dark. Je Yunqing said nevermind, let this rest then. Then the old man told Ye Junqing that he remember the late emperor, who decided to eradicate the Grand General Wang Ping, he ordered Prince Guo back secretly into the capital. Then, he realized what he was saying was dangerous, he walked away babbling saying his old and shouldnt worry himself with royal business.

Everyone knows that Yao Suluan and Yao returned to the door and gave lavish gifts to everyone. Only Concubine Shu sent a bird to warn her that every bird would not fly to become a phoenix, saying that Yao Suluan had the heart to replace the queen infront of everyone. The two women bickered on.

Yao Mowan ran to seek Je Yunqing and told him that her mother told her that the day she ran away was the same day her sister was poisoned. She wanted Ye Junqing to join her in investigating the case. Ye Junqing flatly refused, saying that he will go at it alone. He told her since she knows her identity now she should stay at her own home and not live in his palace anymore. She responded back by saying if that there would be no one to take care of him if she wasn't there. She pointed out to him that they both signed an agreement. She asked him if he didn't care for her why would he save her over and over again. He walked off.

Qianmian checked Yao Suluan's calming incense and there was no problem. Ye Hongyi knew that the person who stole the Nine Dragon Cup was Han Jinyi. Rumor has it that the dragon in Han Jinyi did not see the head and could not find it's identity. He told Ye Hongyi that Han Jinyi used Ye Junqing as a hostage to escape from the guards. This made Ye Hongyi suspecious saying it was impossible that Han can take on Ye Junqing. He believed that the two were collaborating.

Ye Junqing deliberately stayed in Yao Mansion and ordered Ben Lei to go to the palace to search for information. Ye Hongyi returned to the door and said that Dou Shiming was dominating the frontier and was loved by the people. There were also ministers in the court who vassalized them. There was something in the words that Dou Xianglan could not explain. The King definitely seem upset that the Dou family is rising in power. Seeing that Ye Junqing was there, Ye Hongyi tentatively asked him about his understanding of the court politics of mercenary self-respect. Ye Junqing casually responded with two sentences indicating that he was a martial artist not one who knows anything about court politics. Yao Mowan came in suddenly, expounded her thoughts on the topic, and proposed that the separation of military and government measures can consolidate the imperial power. She was unobstructed and the atmosphere was very embarrassing.That is when the King asked if Yao Mowan was the one who help him with meds and if she was the queen's beloved little sister. 

Ye Hongyi learned that she was Yao Moxin's own sister, and praised her for her courage. Besides Yao Moxin, she was the second woman who could discuss political affairs with him. Dou Xianglan was very upset when she saw Yao Mowan being praised by Ye Hongyi. Ye Junqing pulls Yao Mowan and accuses her of being too sharp and outspoken. Yao Mansion is definitely not simple, reminding Yao Mowan not to arbitrarily discuss state affairs. Women's discussion of state affairs is a taboo.

Yao Mowan thought about what Ye Junqing said during the day and walked out of the room to see Ye Hongyi watching the moon alone. When Ye Hongyi saw Yao Mowan, he thought of Yao Moxin and couldn't help expressing his affection for Yao Moxin. She said that although she was a woman, she was amazed by thousands of miles of rivers and mountains. Every word revealed her true feelings. Dou Xianglan and her daughter sees this, and mistakenly thinking that Yao Mowan had selfish intentions. She vowed that she would never let her succeed.

The next day, Yao Mowan was flirting with Ye Junqing, saying she would follow him where ever he goes. Just as she was talking her birth mom walks toward her. She asked her to go with her because her stepmother wanted to talk with her.  Dou Xianglan approached Yao Mowan, wanting her to marry as soon as possible, and testing her memories of the past. Yao Mowan knew that Dou Xianglan was evil and had bad intentions. Dou Xianglan made a marriage appointment for her and asked her to marry Zhao Ping, the son of Zhao Zhao, the Nancheng defender. Yao Mowan refused to marry and contradicted Dou Xianglan. Dou Xianglan was so angry that she slapped Mo Li (Yao Mowan's birth mom) directly, saying that she instigated Yao Mowan to talk back to her elders. 

Ye Junqing went to the pharmacy to pick up the medicine. He bumped into Yao's housekeep picking up medicine, he saw the list of medicinal materials and asked the herbalist what it was for. The doctor said it was just regular medicine for the common cold. Ye Junqing chit chatted with the housekeeper on his way home. He asked the housekeep about Madam Dou being at the pharmacy. Through the housekeep's mouth he learned that Madam Dou was indeed there and took some medicine to the palace for her own daughter. That was the same day that Yao Moxin was poisoned. The housekeeper also said she told madam Dou that he can take the medicine to the palace, but she refused anxiously and said she must go herself.

When they returned back to the Yao's masion, Yao Mowan ran and pulled Yu Junqing to the side and told him she needs his help. She said her stepmother is forcing her to marry and ugly man. He laughted and said why do I think he is the one that is doing a good deed in marrying you, then walked off.

In the evening, Zhao Zhao's family came over to greet the King, Ye Junqing and the Yao's family. The king asked to see the Zhao's son and see if he is qualified and match worthy to Yao Mowan.  Zhao Ping walked in and he was short, ugly, and stupid. Yao Mowan tried her best to dress herself as a buck-toothed, and ugly girl with moles on her face. Everyone laughted. Zhao Ping gave Mowan a dessert and she ate it and fell into a coma. The servant asked why she poisoned Mowan. Dou Xianglan exposed Yao Mowan's disguise by pinching her hard. Ye Junqing stepped in and said Mowan is working so hard to not get married and that she should be freed.  Ye Hongyi couldn't bear to let Yao Mowan marry such an ugly man, so he allowed her to choose her husband freely.

Qianmian suddenly came to report that a person in the palace was caught trying to mess with Yao Moxin. Ye Hongyi asked to get up and drive back to the palace immediately. Ye Junqing asked to leave with the King, but he refused. He ordered him to stay back. Yao Moxin vomited a lot of blood. Ye Junqing was restless. He heard that Yao Moxin couldn't survive tonight. He desperately wanted to break into the palace, but was slapped awake by Yao Mowan.
