The central government's team came to Jiaxian County, Shaanxi Province. Mao Zedong ordered Peng Dehuai to fight and asked Xi Zhongxun to block the ferry crossing of the Yellow River in this area and transfer all the ferries to the east of the Yellow River. Because they had to replan the route if they didn't cross the river, Mao Zedong and others set their sights on Shenquanbao, which was very close to them, based on the notes left by Xi Zhongxun.

Zhang Junxian, secretary of the Jiaxian County Party Committee, met the villagers who came to pay military rations on the road. Everyone believed that the Communist Party could make the people live a good life. As long as they could help the frontline soldiers, it didn't matter if they were hungry temporarily. Seeing the people's heart and support, Zhang Junxian was very moved and promised to bring everyone's words to Chairman Mao.

On August 20, 1947, the Northwest Field Army set an ambush in Shajiadian and wiped out more than 6,000 enemies. The Battle of Shajiadian was a key battle to reverse the situation in the northwest. It basically crushed the Kuomintang army's key offensive against northern Shaanxi. The Northwest Field Army switched from inner defense to inner counterattack.

Xi Zhongxun and He Long went to Suide together to coordinate the rear work. After the Yihe Conference, Xi Zhongxun personally came to He Long, worried that some policies were ambiguous and that the implementation of land reform in the future would easily slide to the "left", such as labeling people without distinguishing right from wrong, and even some cadres calling middle peasants rich peasants and rich peasants landlords in order to fight, and there was a phenomenon of hanging and beating to force confessions. So in order to curb this incorrect behavior in time, Xi Zhongxun decided to go down and visit the situation in person to understand the progress of land reform and the problems encountered.

At the same time, Yao Erga, a second-rate man, became an active member of the Poor Peasant League and betrothed the young and beautiful girl Xiu'e. Xiu'e's father saw what he meant and told him that if he could get his own irrigated land back, he would betroth Xiu'e to him. The next morning, the village chief Gao Wangquan was dismissed, and Yao Erga became the director, taking advantage of his power to bully others.

Then Yao Erga took the Poor Peasant League to An Wenqin's house to move things and took his clothes and bed for himself. When Xi Zhongxun went to the countryside for research, he saw many problems, especially the harm caused by Gu Lin's extreme "left" tendency, which was bloody and shocking. Xi Zhongxun found that the poor peasant group was raiding An Wenqin's house, and came to stop it in time, and rescued An Wenqin who was being criticized, criticizing Gu Lin and others for treating such a democratic person who worked for the country and the people like An Wenqin.

It was also through this incident that Xi Zhongxun saw through more problems. Some people, for their own selfish desires, turned the struggle against landlords and rich peasants into a muddy water to fish in troubled waters, and a few people took the opportunity to collect autumn wind and eat the big households; some people even directed the struggle against cadres, even the families of officers and soldiers of the combat troops were among them; some people would confiscate the things of poor and lower-middle peasants, and even the Suide Cadre Children's Primary School beat more than a dozen eight or nine-year-old children into lackeys.

Xi Zhongxun talked to Gu Lin to no avail, and decided to report to the central government the problems of party committees at all levels standing aside and class composition being randomly divided in the land reform, and even Qi Xin couldn't stand this situation. Not long after, Xi Zhongxun came to Mizhi to meet Lin Boqu. Lin Boqu told him that there was a famine at present and realized that natural disasters were one of the causes of food shortages. In addition, extreme behavior in land reform would also hurt the enthusiasm of farmers, especially the backbone middle peasants.

At the group discussion meeting of the December meeting in Yangjiagou, Mao Zedong appreciated the land reform investigation report written by Xi Zhongxun. Xi Zhongxun believed that the left-leaning problem of land reform in Jinsui was too serious and told everything he had seen during this period. For this reason, Mao Zedong supported Xi Zhongxun's ideas and suggestions and corrected the chaos of land reform in a timely manner.
