Our favorite Chinese actress Zhao Lusi (Rosy 赵露思), known for her roles in "The Romance of Tiger and Rose" and "Hidden Love", was recently hospitalized.
Zhao Lusi was rushed to a hospital in Shanghai on December 18, 2024, after experiencing a severe health crisis while filming on set. There are several viral videos, one which showed poor Zhao being wheeled into the hospital in a frail and unsteady condition. Another video showed her relearning how to walk and eat by herself. Yet another showed her singing and eating food prepared by a male friend who brought it over to her.
Initially the internet lit up with news of her having a mini-stroke as a result of suffering from severe depression and extreme fatigue. Now word on the net reports that she experienced episodes of nausea, dizziness, and joint pains throughout 2024. There are allegations of workplace mistreatment and abuse, alleging she was verbally abused by her managers for being too fat, along with being overworked and given no time to rest. Zhao herself disclosed that her weight had dropped so low that she weighted only 36.7kg (81 lbs).
On January 1, 2025, Zhao broke her silence on Weibo, explaining that she had been a victim of physical abuse at her workplace. She didn't disclose the name of the person but implied it was a female supervisor. I personally hope that person will come out and take responsibility for her bad actions and deeds. Hopefully some great netizens will post that person's information, because there are a lot of great detectives out there, and the abusers should be named and shamed.
Zhao is currently undergoing speech therapy and physical rehabilitation. Both her father and good friend, actress Wei Xiao, have reported that Zhao is slowly improving. Zhao also recorded a video of her wishing everyone a happy new year. In that video she seems to be well and I wish her a speedy recovery.
Zhao's management team announced the suspension of all her work commitments to prioritize for her recovery, and apologized for the shortcoming on their part but strongly denies any abuse.
There are many Chinese celebrities that had come forth to show support for her. To name a few: Xue Jianing (co-star from " The Last Immortal") called her strong, brave and responsible. Wang Yajia (starred with her from "Love Like The Galaxy>") praised Zhao's kindness and optimism. Chen Minghao (from The Romance of Tiger and Rose") expressed her support for her. Wu Yaheng (from "Dating in the Kitchen") encouraged her to express her emotions freely. G.E.M. (Chinese female singer) left supportive comments. Leo Wu (co-star from "Love Like The Galaxy") publicly expressed his anger and frustration about the conditions that led to Zhao's hospitalization and criticizing the production team of their project for their alleged mishandling and negligence. He called for accountability in the industry. Zhao's father broke his silence about her condition after Leo's emotional statement and reassuring updates on Zhao's health.
The outpouring of support from her peers and people who work in and out and around the entertainment industry helps to signify that Zhao Lusi earned her praises from being recognized for her extreme diligence, talent, and kindness. She is a great human being and not a robot, hopefully the people (company) responsible will be held accountable and that changes for the better takes place.
