On July 14, 2020 in New York, an 89-year-old Chinese woman was set ablaze in an unprovoked attack outside her home near 16th Avenue and 77 Street in Brooklyn. The assault was recorded on CCTV, showing two adult males walking towards the elderly woman, slapping her, and then setting her on fire. The victim did not know her assailants, who had committed a hate crime on the most vulnerable of society. Her neighbor, who witnessed the attack, described the incident as seeing two kids push and attack the senior citizen for no apparent reason. The NYPD needs the public's assistance in getting justice for the elderly woman, and community members have offered up to $10,000 in reward money for anyone who has information that will lead to the arrest of the two suspects. But two months have now passed with no leads. Two Chinese superstars, Daniel Wu and MC Jin, came forward and donated $15,000 each, totalling $30,000 in addition to the $10,000 reward money in hopes to persuade the public or anyone with information to come forward. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is doing fine.
